Colorado Hunting Testimonials

Mark Thompson - Bagged a 5 X 5 Bull Elk. Best elk hunt ever, awesome scenery and great guys to hunt with.
Keith Peters - Excellent Bow  Hunting conditions. I saw lots of Bucks and Elk. I will be back!
Larry Neetz - We were well looked after and felt that these guys had a great setup even for some older folk like me.

Michael Gray, Outfitter has guided for deer and elk hunting in Colorado for 20+ years. A Colorado native he started Elk and deer  hunting at age fourteen with his father.  His easy going manner helps his hunters to feel at home and he does everything he can to help his hunters have the best experience possible.    The private land that is guided on is owned by his Uncle and Cousins and is their mountain ranch where they keep their cattle in the late fall when they are brought off of the forest.

This Uncompaghre area has been an excellent Elk, deer and turkey hunting area since the late 18 hundreds and many famous people, including presidents have hunted there.

Elk populations have steadily risen since their introduction in the 1940's.  Deer populations have gone up and down since the Division of Wildlife has managed the area.  We are seeing a increase in the deer population on the Uncompaghre especially on private land.

The ranch starts at an elevation of 7,700 feet and goes up to 8,800 feet, both sides drop down into deep valleys.  Between the valleys the land gently slopes upward to the South and has many draws and smaller valleys that offer excellent cover for the animals.  The ranch at the lower end has scrub oak and cedar trees which give way as the elevation increase to the beautiful aspens and pines at the upper end. From much of the ranch the snow covered 14,000 foot peaks in the San Juan Mountain Range offer some fantastic views.  The sage in the fall are a rich blue/gray color that contrast beautifully with the brown grasses.  Morning light reflecting off of the aspen give it a white florescence with a golden background.

Camp roads allow access to all hunting areas so that the physical requirements needs can be customized to fit the hunter.  Minor handicaps can also be accommodated as we use ground blinds and 20 foot tripod stands that are accessible from the ranch roads.

In addition to the elk, turkey and deer, we have seen mountain lions, bears, porky pines, beaver, blue grouse, pheasants and many other wildlife animals.  Ute Indians used to hunt this area so arrowheads and other Indian objects have been found.  Bring your fishing pole,  if you fill you tags early, fish some private beaver ponds that hold brookies, rainbows and cutthroat trout. (Catch and Release Only, Please)

Feel the cool mountain air, smell the pines and feel the openness as you glide through the area on our atv's.  Bring your camera as many of the wildflowers hang on to their blossoms well into the fall. Sunsets and sunrises can be different everyday and offer views worth the entire trip.
